Summary Tmesis Theatre are an internationally renowned dance/physical theatre company that have won awards and critical acclaimed for their unique style of movement-based theatre. Based in Liverpool and run by Artistic Directors, Elinor Randle and Yorgos Karamalegos the company have produced four pieces, Tmesis, Memento Mori, Anima and The Dreadful Hours that have toured nationally and internationally, they are currently working on their fifth piece, Wolf Red. The company have worked with high profile collaborators on all their pieces who have influenced the company’s style and training including, Malou Auriado (Pina Bausch Tanztheater), Tanya Khabarova (Derevo), Nigel Charnock (Co-founder of DV8) and Linda Kerr Scott (Complicite). Company style Tmesis Theatre use a strong expressive body language and, combining the elements of movement with theatre, create a style of dance theatre accessible to its audience even if the story is abstractly approached. Tmesis Theatre were awarded a Dance Film Commission in 2010 from Liverpool City Council. In collaboration with First Take they produced their first dance on film piece, ‘Tmesis’ which has been shown at Dance Film Festivals worldwide. TMESIS THEATRE DIRECTING RESIDENCIES AND PHYSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOPS The company offer directing residencies and workshops in their unique style of physical theatre for university level students which are led by one or both of the company’s Artistic Director’s who are well known for their energetic teaching style and encouraging participants to push their barriers through training and improvisation. The company’s strong physical style of theatre and training methods has been enriched by their challenging collaborations with Derevo and Pina Bausch Tanztheater. The company can decide on a theme or story or can create a production with adapted from a script/ story of your choice. TEACHING RESIDENCIES (FROM ONE WEEK TO ONE TERM IN LENGTH) Tmesis Theatre’s teaching residencies take the students on a vigorous and in-depth physical theatre training programme, which looks at body awareness, expression, basic acrobatics, choreographing sequences, creating characters, text and physicality and devising physical work. W e can structure an ongoing program to suit your needs, time-table and budget. PHYSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOPS (FROM 2 HOURS TO 2 DAYS IN LENGTH) Tmesis Theatre workshops give an introduction to the company’s powerful training methods focusing on strength, flexibility, rhythm and expression and offer tools in their unique ways of creating and devising work. The company particularly look at pushing barriers through creating abstract and dynamic ways of using the body which break habitual patterns. PHYSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOLS The company can deliver workshops specifically designed to suit your needs or to help students physicalise a piece they are working on.
